Pride

In class, during the past few days, we have been watching the movie Pride. The movie is about a man, Jim Ellis, who forms the first African American Swim Team. He gets a job cleaning out an old recreational building and comes across some boys playing basketball outside of the building. When the boys no longer have a basketball net, the city took it down, he invites them in to cool of in the pool. He soon realizes that they have potential, so he asks them to help him form a swim team. They also get a new addition to the team, a girl, to help them out. At there first meet the other teams coach said that his team wasn't feeling well and 'postponed' the game. After that the team went on to win many titles. Coach Ellis soon looses faith in himself after he gets into a fight and they find out that he had a record of arrest. Ellis put himself on suspension and told the team to coach each other for the next meet. The girl on the team is the first to finish first, followed by one of the boys. The boys put Reg as the anchor, even though he isn't the best swimmer, because he has the biggest heart out of them all and he wins them first place in the competition.

My thoughts and feeling about this movie are very strong. I personally loved this movie. It shows how people  go out of their comfort zone to accomplish something they really believe in. The way that they were treated made me think they would quit trying. He had been called many names and looked down upon, but Mr. Ellis did not give up. He did it for the children and he knew if he gave up, the children wouldn't have a good role model. This movie is such an inspiring piece of work and I recommend it. This movie has inspired me to stand up for what I believe in. Have you watched this movie? What are your thoughts on this movie?
